What is an Acoustic Fence?
Traditional fences serve a traditional purpose; to keep one person’s property (or section of property) separate from another person’s property. But no matter how well-made traditional fences are and no matter how well they block the sight of your neighbor’s property, there is one thing that they cannot do, and that is block out sound.
Acoustic fences are created in such a way that they not only block substantial sound, but they also produce far less reflective sound inside the area that is being fenced, creating a quiet and natural space where you can relax and not have to worry about unwanted noise pollution.
In looks, acoustic fences can vary from the rather imposing sound barriers put up between highways and residential areas, to handsomely constructed cedar fencing that looks for all intents and purposes to be simply a well-made back yard fence.
How are Acoustic Fences Built?
Acoustic Fences are, in effect, sound barrier walls and can be built out of a variety of different materials and created for different heights depending on the noise level that needs to be blocked. This means that a sound barrier wall placed between a residential neighborhood and a highway is going to be constructed differently than an acoustic fence or Cedar Noise Wall Fencing placed between neighbors’ properties.
One thing that all acoustic fences have in common, however, are their layers of material. Whether they are using composites or cedar fencing, the focus of an acoustic fence is to interrupt the sound flow from outside the yard or space being fenced in, and to keep the sound inside the fenced in area from escaping. A minimum surface density of acoustic fence shall be 20kg/S.M. to meet MOE requirement or as specified in noise report.
